Maumee River
Wetlands Drone Spraying Application

Area Treated:
an island on the Maumee River in Toledo, where dense invasive Phragmites stands were present. The primary management concern was timely application of herbicide to suppress these reeds, drone spraying application.

Target Species Impact:
Phragmites australis, a tall and dense monoculture, outcompetes native wetland vegetation, reducing plant biodiversity and creating poor-quality habitat for fish and wildlife. These dense stands also alter hydrology and impede natural ecosystem function along riverine wetlands.

Desired outcome:
The project aimed to suppress and control Phragmites stands on the island to reduce their dominance and improve the ecological conditions.

Our customizable Drone Services are ideal for treating dense vegetation and muddy ground conditions. Manned crews with backpack sprayers found access extremely difficult and time-consuming. However, drone spraying application allows treatment in all necessary areas in a fraction of the time, with greater coverage and efficiency than ground-based methods.
